I believe that at times we choose our art, and at times, it chooses us, a notion that resonates deeply with me every time I immerse myself in the world of pottery and ikebana, sensing that clay and flowers have bestowed upon me the honor of conveying a special message to the world.
My fascination with Japanese ceramics has always guided my artistic journey, leading me to intricately observe spatial design, delve into the essence of wabi-sabi, explore Japanese poetry, and ultimately discover the pinnacle of aesthetic expression—ikebana.
Today, ikebana stands as a distinct and profoundly meaningful chapter in my creative way. Some meaningful meetings have guided me to the Sogetsu school, where I have already attained the 3rd level and continue my studies with the goal of becoming a sensei next year.
Ikebana embodies an understanding of the ephemeral nature of existence, encapsulating a concentrated beauty and harmony wherein everything occupies its rightful place, exactly as it should be.
In stark contrast to ceramics, which endure the test of time, ikebana lives and breathes alongside the vibrant lifespan of its floral elements. The creation of an ikebana arrangement demands as much time and attention as any other art form. One can choose to savor the momentary beauty of ikebana in the present or cherish a delicate memory of it later.
This art form trains us to meticulously and perceptively seek out beauty in the transience of all phenomena. It teaches us to embody beauty, to engage with it through all our senses, to merge with it briefly, dissolving ourselves within its essence while the flowers are alive.
